The Minnesota Bonsai Society offers a variety of bonsai workshops - most are held in both spring and fall. If you're new to bonsai, Novice (Beginners) Workshops are a great way to get started.
In this class, you'll receive your own pre-bonsai tree, a suitable pot with soil, and an intensive one-day workshop designed to give you the basic skills needed to create and care for your own bonsai.
Enrollment is filled on a first-come basis, so please register early.
WHEN - June 14 OR 15 and September 20 OR 21, 2008
COST - $60 includes morning instruction and afternoon hands-on styling, and includes all materials, tree, pot, soil, wire and the use of club tools.
WHERE - The Education Bldg. at McNeely Conservatory in Como Park, St. Paul. Here you may also view the Conservatory's outstanding collection of bonsai.
WHAT - A Novice Workshop day runs from 10 AM to 4 PM. The time is divided into a morning lecture session, and a hands-on styling session in the afternoon with a lunch break in between. In the lecture session you'll learn about the history of bonsai, the aesthetic principles involved, and the tools and techniques needed to produce quality bonsai. Additionally, we'll cover regionally specific considerations, where to find local suppliers - information that's hard to come by in bonsai books. During the hands-on session, volunteers from the club assist students in creating their own bonsai. |
