The Railroad Paintings
On these pages are paintings I did in the 1980s, most of them custom ordered by narrow-gauge railroad modelers. Few of these trains still run, and most no longer exist. They were all painted from old black-and-white photos taken in the heyday of the steam locomotive. - Pat Leners
Above: Shay No. 7 of the now-defunct West Side Lumber Co. in Tuolumne, CA. These little locos hauled flatbed cars loaded with logs from the Sierra Nevada foothills to the sawmills where the logs were shaped into lumber.  Narrow-gauge railroad logging at WSL ended in 1960, when trucks became the means of transporting the cut timber.  Today, helicopters are frequently used.   TITLE: "Tuolumne"      Painting size: 21" x 30"
