These 8 photos are from a trip to the State Bonsai Repository in Hawaii. The older gentleman is David Fukumoto who is the president and founder of Fuku Bonsai. The younger gentleman is Michael Imaino who is the president and curator of the Mid Pacific Bonsai Foundation.
The tree that is being repotted is a Chinese Fig that was collected 30 years ago from the jungle. The estimated age at that point was approx. 40 years old and the tree was over 20 feet tall. It is an epiphyte tree that was growing over a cut tree stump. The wiring method was very interesting as well as the potting techniques that they use.
