We are happy to announce that bonsai master Jim Doyle will be our guest at the May 2nd meeting. Jim graduated with a degree in Horticulture in the early 1970s and started Nature's Way Nursery in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.  His interest in bonsai was nurtured by an old Minnesota bonsai acquaintance, Chase Rosade, and he went on to study extensively with other artists, including study in Japan.

Jim's specialties include conifers, Japanese maples, and hornbeams. He is a frequent guest speaker at meetings and conventions and has paired with European artist Walter Pall for demonstrations. Club members recently had the opportunity to hear him speak and demonstrate at the California Shohin Convention in February. He was involved in founding the Susquehanna Bonsai club and co-chaired the 1992 ABS Convention in Hershey, PA.

Jim will give a slide presentation on his tree collecting experiences. He possesses a wealth of information on the subject, having collected both in the U.S. and Europe with Walter Pall, from areas with climates and tree types similar to our own.

For those of us with limited funds, what better way to improve the quality of our collections than by collecting trees that Mother Nature has made.  Mark your calendars for May 2nd and be prepared for an informative meeting on tree collecting and keeping them alive.

Come around 7:00 to get first dibs on vendor goodies, raffle tickets, library books, and the cookie assortment at the coffee counter - and don't forget to feed the coffee-can kitty!
