| Dave De Groot is Our Featured Spring Artist! |
| Our guest bonsai artist for the May 3 meeting and for the club workshops will be Dave De Groot who has come to Minnesota several times to visit, teach, and even to entertain us. When he last visited, in September 2003, he judged the trees from our State Fair bonsai show, and at our meeting a few days later he talked about some of those trees, which were on stage at the meeting. For the May program, Dave will present the Art of Bonsai Display. He will show some slides and then speak and demonstrate the principles of designing a bonsai display with trees, pots, stands, scrolls, companion plants, stones and figurines. Dave has been the curator of the Weyerhaeuser Pacific Rim Bonsai Collection near Seattle since 1989, and authored the book Basic Bonsai Design. There will be copies of his book at the meeting, to purchase and have author-signed. This is an excellent reference, and the price is very reasonable. Those of us who have worked with Dave know that he is one of the most talented bonsai designers and teachers in the U.S. He is just as enthusiastic about helping the less-experienced bonsai fan as the long-time stylist, and his workshops are a fast three hours packed with as much information as you can absorb.
