Class starts at 7:30 p.m. For questions, contact Jeff Lorch at Lorcrest@hotmail.com Saturday, March 12 - Field trip to Sara Rayner's Studio in Red Wing, where award-winning bonsai pots are created. OPEN HOUSE WILL BE FROM 10:30 A.M. TIL NOON. Directions to Sara's Studio: Hwy 61 South to Red Wing, MN, where Hwy 61 turns into Main Street. Turn Right on Pine St. and go to 4th St. Sara's Studio is at 1025 W. 4th at the corner, in the carriage house located behind the main house. Folks are encouraged to carpool - saves on gas and you get to know someone new. Measure your trees that need pots, to determine the correct size pot to look for at Sara's. Make a note of trunk diameter at the soil level, width and depth of the root mass, tree height, foliage type - and the color of the foliage. Remember - a pot is to a bonsai as a frame is to a painting! Tuesday, March 15 - We will meet in the church Choir Room this month. Styling: Get a Plan! Please bring a notebook and several color pens. Also, bring along the tree you're planning to develop, if possible. Class of folks are strongly encouraged to participate in the intermediate workshop in April. This is an excellent opportunity to develop your tree. April 19 Repotting - Get Dirty! This is an essential part of bonsai horticulture. We'll have a hands-on session, so be prepared to get your hands dirty. Bring a tree that needs repotting, plus pot, soil, pliers, screen and tie-down wire, if you think it may be needed. May 17 Acquiring Bonsai - Sorting good material from "scrubs in pots." |
