| March program on creating bonsai forests |
| Who can forget this gorgeous forest planting, Joe Monda's creation, that took top honors at our 2004 State Fair show? And like any thing of beauty, to see it is to WANT one like it. We had a great time on Tuesday evening, March 1, viewing two of Warren Hill's famous videos on creating bonsai forests - and are each ready to create our own forest in April, right? Need more help? ... Next month: Our April meeting will be four groups of members creating 4 different forests, and since we've watched Warren in March, we'll know what to ask when we stand around the big tables to watch the Forest Marathon. The plant material to be used will be 2 Trident Maple forests and 2 Dawn Redwood forests. LAST MONTH - What a great program we had in February! Claude Worrell and Kim Faith brought their laptop and gave us a real treat, a Powerpoint presentation of last fall's Taiwan bonsai tour, sponsored by BCI (Bonsai Clubs International). We saw strange and amazing bonsai sights (and sites) on the other side of the world. Bonsai is very BIG in Taiwan, and their trees are of tremendous quality, big trunks and fine ramification (a lot easier to achieve when you have 12 months of hot growing weather each and every year). It was a revelation to see them. Thanks to Claude and Kim! |
