| MBS Board Meeting - May 22, 2007
The meeting was called to order at 7 PM. Present were: Mary Russell, Lynn Aaze, Terry Bishop, Glenda Jungquist, Ken Ellis, Pat Leners and Cheryl Sykora. Absent: Val Drinane, Tim Mathwig, Bob Hampel, Dale Krueger, Larry Oreschnick, Tom Durnick and Laura Flath. The April Board meeting minutes were read and approved. President’s Report: Mary had nothing to report. Treasurer’s Report: Val will email copies of her report to board members. 1st VP/Programs: Bob was absent. 2nd VP/Workshops: Bonsai Basics (Novice) Workshops: Glenda reported that the spring novice workshops (June 9 and 10) will be held in the garage at Como. Larry has the ficus trees on hand and Glenda has the junipers. Board voted to omit prewiring the junipers. We will try to recruit around 10 cutters for each session. Parking behind the building will be available for the 2 workshop coordinators only. Club (Master) Workshops: Glenda reported that the fall workshops will be held at the Children's Gallery at Como. Guy Guidry is bringing material. Board voted to have one session using bring-your-own material, with all remaining sessions using the furnished trees. Miscellaneous: Ken suggested trying to get anodized aluminum wire from Japan again, as the color wears off our present Korean-made wire in less than a year. Board discussed possibly finding new workshop space for next year. COMMITTEE REPORTS Bonsai Basics Class: Cheryl said the latest Class was exceptional, with Bruce Peterson demonstrating propagating techniques. Cheryl stated that she would like to develop a group of regular speakers for the annually repeated programs. State Fair: Cheryl has a committee of 6; ribbons and plaques have been purchased. We will have info on State Fair prep at the July and August general meetings. Master coordinator: Suthin Sukosolvisit will return on July 12-15 to teach the special workshop; we will ask him to do the July Bonsai Basics Class also. Board approved Gay Wakeman's request to book two days of private workshops following the club workshops. Auction: Pat said everything is ready to go; she will contact Bob (program chairman) to notify the church about the table layout and when to unlock the doors for sellers’ setup. Art in Bloom: Ken reported that the show was very well received. One tree was badly damaged from being under hot spotlights for several days. Bob suggested by email that smaller trees would be better for this venue. OLD BUSINESS Mothers Day Show: Larry was absent but board members reported that the show went well despite the heat in the bonsai room. The People's Choice award was popular but needs to have someone in charge of organizing it. Sakura Festival: Glenda said we had a display table, but the festival was not well attended, probably due to very little advertising plus bad weather. Best of the U.S.: Dale was absent. Midwest Token Kai show: There has been no correspondence from the organization. MABA: Bob will notify them that we are withdrawing our bid to host in 2010. NEW BUSINESS - There was no new business. Meeting adjourned at 8:30 PM. Respectfully submitted, Pat Leners, Secretary BACK TO HOME PAGE |
