| COMO INSIDER UPDATE Here's news from the latest issue of the Como Park Zoo & Conservatory newsletter, which features a double-page spread devoted to the Japanese Pavilion and Gardens (including BONSAI display, by the way). We've swiped 2 photos and some of the text, shown below in green "quotes". The good news is that the new outdoor bonsai display looks great, and winter viewing will be a new feature. The bad news is -- it's expected to open in 2010. |

| "An enclosed Pavilion walkway connecting the Conservatory and the glass-encased new Bonsai Pavilion. The walkway will fully open to the Bonsai Garden via a series of glass doors or provide a closed walkway during inclement weather. "A new glittering glass Bonsai Pavilion will display Bonsai trees year-round in a climate controlled space. The Pavilion will also provide lovely views into the Japanese Garden and serve as a destination during the winter months. A Pavilion Terrace will extend out the east side of the Pavilion Gallery and lead down to the Japanese Garden to provide year-round views into the garden. "An outside Bonsai Garden extending the length of the Pavilion and providing an outdoor gallery for displaying Bonsai trees. The Bonsai Garden will provide visitors a serene space that invites them to meander its paths, as well as a stunning gallery to display the Conservatory's horticultural works of art. "A realigned path into the Como Ordway Memorial Japanese Garden that will curve through a grove of trees, providing visitors a new view around every bend. The path will lead to a newly installed traditional Japanese Garden gate that will offer a glimpse of the beauty inside before visitors cross the threshold. "Opportunities to experience the Japanese Garden year-round. Traditional Japanese gardens are intended to provide new opportunities to celebrate nature in quiet and subtle ways during all four seasons. Visitors will be able to view into the 'resting' garden from the comfort of the Bonsai Pavilion and Pavilion Terrace. During warmer winter days, visitors will be invited to venture out to the garden gate for a closer view into the Garden." Back to Home Page |
